Many people shy away from using black in a decorating scheme. It can seem a little harsh when we are so used to cream and brown natural color schemes. But a monochromatic scheme can give many rooms an update and thrust them into the twenty-first century with a contemporary chic look.
Once you have your black and white color scheme in place, perhaps with white walls, pale flooring and black furniture, you might like think about adding a black rug to your floor. Here are some ideas for using your rug in the right way.
1. Make it a Focal Point
A black rug is a great focal point for a room, so make yours as large as you can (while still fitting well into the space) and place it in the center of your floor or seating area.
2. Add Texture
Texture is always attractive in soft furnishings and a rug is no exception. If you have a plain black rug then texture is almost a must. Although shag rugs were very popular in the seventies, they have made a dramatic comeback in recent years and are just right for contemporary rooms. Take a look at the black shag rugs you will find these days in leather as well as wool and make your rug a talking piece.
3. Add Design
Instead of looking only at plain black area rugs, consider a design to give your rug more impact. You can choose a black and white geometric design rug which will have the most dramatic effect in your monochromatic scheme or go for a black rug with other colors which is a way to additional colors to your black and white scheme.
4. Add Quality
An interior designer will always advise that you choose quality products for your home but with a black rug quality counts more than with other colors. For some reason, black is a color which puts the quality of materials and the depth and richness of dye into sharp relief.
