Garbage Disposal Suggestions for Restaurants

Monday, March 8th, 2010

In addition to having a good commercial garbage disposal, in this article are some suggestions for restaurants and other places that serve food to help reduce the amount of food waste.

One, be sure that you use older food before more recently received foods. Have a system that works best for you to help you keep track of which food you have had the longest and utilize it first. Without some kind of system it may be difficult at times to tell the difference between older food and fresher food. Using the less fresh food first will reduce the amount of food that has to be thrown away.

Two, when your food is delivered to your business from your suppliers be sure to check it all for freshness before you sign the buy order. Refuse to accept any rotten and damaged foods. Simply send it back and ask for replacements. Your food vendor will likely not complain because they do have competitors and they want to maintain your business. But too often in the rush of doing daily business buyers do not inspect the food deliveries and wind up wasting a good amount of food and money as a result.

Three, there is a right way and wrong way for raw vegetables to be stored. If you do it wrong the vegetables will spoil and rot. Airtight reusable containers will help produce to remain fresher longer. Also helpful tip is to remember not to place lettuce and tomatoes near each other and certainly not in the same box together. Gas from the tomatoes will cause the lettuce to turn brown.

Four, you can prevent freezer burn by making sure that the food is wrapped securely and that it does not sit in the freezer for too long before being used. Again a good rotation plan will allow you to use the older food first.

Five, along the same line who has not had the experience of discovering some food item in their freezer from long ago and they had even forgotten that they had it but it had fallen into a corner and was not easily seen? For that reason it is necessary on occasion to clean out and rearrange the freezer. This will take a little time but will be well worth the effort in the food that is saved.

Finally, rather than just throwing away good food check around your town to see if any food banks would be interested in coming out and picking up the food to distribute to those in need.

Even after taking all of these steps there no doubt will be some food waste that must be disposed of. That is why even the most efficient commercial kitchens should have installed a good commercial garbage disposer.

Finding a good quality garbage disposer for your business is only part of the battle. Put into these tips into practice and you disposal will last even longer.

TV Radiation

Saturday, February 6th, 2010

We have all become aware that electronics give off radiation. One of the first contributors to public awareness of radiation has been cell phones. This has made the government scramble and try to understand how to regulate the types of radiation that our bodies can be exposed to and how much is an acceptable level. One of the largest contributors to our health has been our home televisions and computers. These particular devices are the most radiation emitting device in the household. Even over microwaves. The main reason for this is the fact that they are on for such long periods of time. The average household has its television set running for about 6 hours a day. This is what makes televisions the largest contributor to radiation exposure that we are around on a daily basis. The second is old computer monitors which many people, even kids, can sit in front of for hours at a time every day. So what can we do?

Well most of us say we can limit or cut down on the amount of television that we watch and computer time. This takes care of the problem and will allow for us to maybe do something at night beside sit and watch TV or just play computer games. Well this might work for about a week or two and then your old habits will come back and take over. The answer is not to cut back on what you do but to change the kind of technology that you invest in.  An  LCD TV, Plasma TV, or LCD Computer Monitor is the answer. This new technology does not emit any radiation due to the fact that they are not capable of emitting radiation. The radiation in computer screens comes from the lighting source of the screens or the kind of bulb that these older style screens use. They are not only energy hogs but they do emit some nasty rays in which we can be exposed to for hours at a time. A Flat Screen Computer Monitor does not have this kind of lighting source in it. They are lit with florescent or even better LED technology. If you need an excuse to get rid of your old crappy huge TV screen or computer monitor, your health and exposure is a good place to start.

Buying A Portable Printer And Scanner

Thursday, February 4th, 2010

A portable printer and scanner can be one of the handiest tools one can have in this day and age of digitizing any and all content. Even our medical records are being converted to being electronic, so why not everything else? Although there are many vendors offering portable printers and scanners, this is one product which you should touch and feel before you buy. If nothing, look at the floor model and order it online.

As an aside, many stores have an option of having the product delivered to the store so you don’t have to pay shipping charges. In that vein, WalMart (www.walmart.com) is one of the better choices and has a good selection to go along with good prices. If you are one to brave it and buy online only, look at NewEgg (www.newegg.com). They have good customer service and a good return policy to accompany each product.

But, back to going into a brick and mortar store. Even if a product is a little expensive, if it provides good value for the money and makes life easier, it is worth it. In this case, though, the market is so competitive and the business model has changed from making money on printers to making money on consumables such as toner cartridges that you can buy a printer cum scanner cum copier for fewer than forty U.S. dollars! An HP Deskjet F2430 All-in-One Printer/Scanner/Copier with Bonus USB Printer Cable would suffice for most home use. Although ink would cost more, this product is compatible with Windows 7 and with Macs as well. Of course, Linux users never have anything to worry about. There is always software to be found that makes it work! The USB cable, which is the one that connects the printer to your computer, is usually not included with printers in this price range, but the one that is included here will suffice. Selecting one of the more expensive brand name ones on offer is not necessary. Visit portable printer scanner or negative film scanners for further information.

Pink Digital Cameras Can Get You Noticed

Tuesday, February 2nd, 2010

With the rate that electronic equipment is evolving these days, people are always thinking about upgrading their equipment. Across the board, electronic suppliers are constantly coming up with new models, whether it is for cameras, cellphones, MP4 players or laptops.  One of the latest changes when it comes to electronic equipment is that much of it is now available in color, as opposed to only black or gray. Women especially love to buy according to what best suits their mood or their outfit and it is not uncommon to see a woman sporting a pink digital camera. In fact, some women have several different colored electronic devices, so they can mix and match with what they are wearing.  Pink is a very popular color amongst the younger female set, and digital cameras in pink have become very popular. They set the pace, and let everybody know that life is fun and to be enjoyed.

In the past, colorful electronics have sometimes been low end equipment. Not these days, however. Now, manufacturers simply make different colored casing with the specs exactly the same as the gray or black models. Pink digital cameras these days have exactly the same features as the black or silver cameras, such as resolutions up to twelve mega-pixels, and high quality color printing options. Other common features include face recognition and automatic focus.

If you really want to go all out, you could also buy a pink accessory bag for your camera, and a pink hard drive to store your photos on.  Most common camera cases are simple, and do not have a lot of extra storage room, but they do offer protection against falls and scratches. They are usually around twenty dollars.

It is very common, these days, to express yourself through your electronic equipment and accessories. So if pink is your color, why not buy yourself a pink digital camera?  Not only will you be making a statement and turning heads as you walk by, but you will also have the ability to take fantastic quality photos as well!
