Bridge in a nut shell

The Bridge game is for two teams of 2 players each using a regular deck of 52 playing cards without jokers. Clubs, Diamonds, Hearts and Spades are the suits ranked from lowest to highest in that order. Clubs and Diamonds are minor suits with the Hearts and Spades being stronger. Dummy is the partner of the player who is the declarer (declarer plays both hands for the pairing) and must remain quiet during the play. You must have good controls of all 4 suits to be a successful bridge player but more importantly is ones ability to evaluate the strength of the hand dealt to them. This evaluation concerns not only ones own hand but the hand of your partner too. Bidding is another term for this evaluation and allows communication with your partner by means of several bids (number of potential tricks to be won) The ‘play’ and the ‘bidding’ are the 2 parts of the bridge card game with bidding being the most difficult to master.
